I recall when Keen first introduced the Pirate ships and the common tactic was to simply fly around an asteroid. As a result it is extremely difficult to program an enemy's movements since one literally has to recalculate the game map constantly to ensure the NPC's pathing remains logical. The problem with NPC enemies in SE is that the game map is infinitely alterable. They are simply programmed with movements and actions to simulate a live enemy. The reality is that there is no "AI" in video game NPCs. I wish that I could find the individual that coined the phrase "AI enemies" for video games and give him or her a not so gentile wrap on the knuckles. ![]()
